Abstract
Women entrepreneurship has emerged as a new domain from the last few years. Now a day’s women entrepreneurship plays a dominant role in economic development with the spread of education and awareness among the women. Women entered the corporate world not only as job takers but also as job creators. Yes, women have finally plunged into the business and have stepped into the shoes of an entrepreneur.
The present study intends to describe the concept and significance of women entrepreneurship and explore the various challenges faced by women and their role in economic development. The present paper also aims to discuss various government schemes for women offered by government. The study concludes that women entrepreneurs can not only contribute to the GDP, but can also play a key role in addressing societal challenges. However, the number of women entrepreneurs in India remains relatively low. Government has launched various schemes and programmes to empower women. With the help of these schemes and programmes, many women are making their life less hard, better and some of them are living their dream. The government has been formulating and implementing various schemes to promote entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is powerful tool for economic development of a nation. It is beneficial for both women and economy as entrepreneurship can create various opportunities which will eradicate the poverty and increase the growth of economy.
