Abstract

Ergonomically designed workstations play an important role to minimize the interaction between worker and the working environment. The main objectives to design working place according to ergonomics is to prevent injuries by eliminating extra force, repetition, postural discomfort and vibration. Now a day’s, the science of ergonomics is employed in almost all major industries as service, construction, agriculture, clothing and textile industry etc. Among all these industries, clothing and textile industry is facing many problems regarding musculoskeletal disorders. All the clothing and textile-based manufacturing firms, involve multiple operations such as stitching task, trimming, cutting, ironing, washing, garment assembling and many more. All these activities are found to be associated with Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs), which includes musculoskeletal disorders of the neck, shoulders and upper limbs. Due to poorly-designed workstations, these stress and pain become chronic and lead to higher rates of injuries in clothing and textile industry. Therefore, proper ergonomically designed workstation is necessary to prevent repetitive strain injuries, which can develop over time and can lead to long-term disability. This paper will give an overview of role and importance of ergonomically designed workstation in clothing and textile industry.
